Captain America

Materials

Yarn colors: All yarn used is weight category 4, 100% acrylic

  • Light brown yarn (I used Premier Yarns Everyday in color Heather)
  • Blue yarn
  • Red yarn
  • White yarn
  • White felt for stars and letter A
  • 3.5mm hook
  • 9mm safety eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Polyfill/stuffing
  • Tapestry needle

sc2tog: decrease by working two sc together

Start with light brown yarn

Helmet

Start with blue yarn

Chain 1, turn

Now we work the back of the helmet.

The back of the helmet is worked in rows.

Row 8: sc 27, chain 1, turn

Row 9-13: sc 27, chain 1, turn

Row 14: sc 27

Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing

Front of helmet

Join the yarn at st number 4 and sc 3 st (3)

Chain 1, turn

sc in the next 3 st

The helmet should look like this.

Now chain 6

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Join the yarn on the opposite side.

Chain 6.

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Weave in end from where yarn was joined at top.

Pin the helmet so it fits around the eyes

Legs and Body

Start with red yarn

Make the first leg

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Rnd 2: [2 sc in next st, sc in next] 3 times (9)

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 st] around (12)

Change to blue yarn

Rnd 4-6: sc in each st around (12)

Finish off.

Make the second leg but don’t finish off.

Rnd 8: [sc2tog, sc in next 10 st] 2 times around (22)

Arms (make two)

Change to white yarn

Change to blue yarn  

Rnd 4-8: sc in each st around (9)

Finish off leaving tail for sewing and stuff lightly.

Shield

Start with blue yarn

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Change to red yarn 

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)

Change to white yarn

Rnd 3: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] 6 times around (18)

Change to red yarn

Rnd 4: [2 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] 6 times around (24)

Finish off, leave long tail for sewing

Weave in all ends

Sew all of the parts together

Next, cut out 2 starts and an A out of felt

Glue one star to the middle of the shield.

Glue the other star to the front of Captain America’s chest

Glue the A to the top middle of the helmet

After the pieces have dried, sew the shield to Captain America’s right hand.

Your Captain America is now finished!
